As the boxes lifted it was Tynwald Bish on the outside who broke smartest and led round the first bend, closely followed by the favourite Farloe Blitz with Rio Quattro in third on the rails. There was crowding in behind with Millwards Davy suffering the most. Approaching the third bend Farloe took the lead closely pursued by Rio Quattro who was beginning to challenge, from Tynwald Bish and Eden The Kid. Around the third Rio took up the running, when Farloe was forced to check. Rio Quattro ran on strongly to prevail at the line by 1 1/4 lengths in 28.24, with Tynwald Bish staying on in second, just a short head in front of Eden The Kid. Farloe Blitz was a further length behind in fourth, 1/2 a length in front of Making Paper, with Millwards Davy some 6 lengths back in last place.

First Semi-Final

It was highly rated Farloe Blitz who was made the 11/8 favourite and, as the boxes lifted, there was never a doubt that he would prevail. He led at the first from Geelo Vegas, with Roxholme Ted on the wide outside. There was bumping behind Farloe at the first bend, with Roxholme Ted and Diego Flight suffering most. Around the second and third bends Farloe continued to dominate, with Rio Quattro, who had started sluggishly, making up ground to challenge. At the line Farloe Blitz won by 1 1/2 lengths in 28.24, with Rio Quattro second in 28.36, a neck in front of Eden The Kid who took the third qualifying spot. Three lengths behind in fourth was Diego Flight, 1 1/4 lengths behind in fifth was Geelo Vegas, with Roxholme Ted bringing up the rear just 1/2 a length further back.

Second Semi-Final

Paradise Maverik, enjoying the benefit of the inside box, was made the uneasy 15/8 favourite, but he was tardy at the start and it was left to outsider of the party, Making Paper, to be quickest away from Trap 2. He led at the first from Tynwald Bish on the outside, Millwards Davy and Lenson Sanchez. Around the second and third bends Making Paper continued to lead, with little change behind. Making Paper dominated throughout and won by 3 1/4 lengths in 28.33. Although bumped on the run-up, Millwards Davy claimed second place in 28.60 by a short head from Tynwald Bish in third. Just a head back in fourth was Paradise Maverik, with Lenson Sanchez 1/2 a length back in fifth, and 1 1/4 lengths back to last placed Viking Jack.

First Quarter Final

Overall favourite Farloe Blitz was drawn in a tricky heat one and was made the 4/5 favourite. This confidence was rewarded when he broke well and led at the first, challenged by the inside boxed Evanta Fantasy. There was bumping at the first behind the early pace setters, with Millwards Davy and Diego Flight suffering most. Farloe continued to lead impressively with Clares Wonder, Millwards Davy and Diego Flight all contesting second. At the final bend Farloe still held the lead, with Millwards and Diego failing to get in a blow, but running on to gain the two remaining qualifying places. Farloe Blitz won by a length in 28.32, with two short heads separating Millwards Davy, Diego Flight and the unlucky Clares Wonder.

Second Quarter Final

The heavily backed 10/11 favourite was Eden The Kid, but he seemed unlikely to justify this support when Evanta Evita was the first to show and led to 1/2, where Rio Quattro took over from Evanta, Making Paper and Eden The Kid. Wotnofizz enjoyed a clear run on the outside, although Boneyside Fun did himself no favours when hitting the rails at the third bend. Rio Quattro continued to lead around the fourth bend but was immediately challenged by Eden the Kid. A tooth and nail tussle on the run-in saw favourite Eden The Kid prevail by a short head in 28.24 from Rio Quattro, with Making Paper running on to claim the third qualifying place 1 1/4 lengths behind.

Third Quarter Final

In a very open third heat it was Teds Last who was made the uneasy 3/1 favourite. The closeness in the betting was reflected in the race when Geelo Vegas was quickly away on the inside and led at the first. Gaytime Hawk was forced to check on the rails, while Viking Jack enjoyed a clear run in the centre. Geelo Vegas continued to lead around the second and third bends, but at the fourth bend there was significant jostling involving Teds Last, Jaytee Jet and Roxholme Ted. Around the final bend Geelo Vegas maintained his lead, challenged by Viking Jack and the running on Roxholme Ted. Geelo prevailed by a head in 28.51, with just a head, head and short head separating Viking Jack in second, Roxholme Ted in third and Jaytee Jet missing out in fourth. Further back just 3/4 length in fifth was Teds Last and, in a closely contested heat, one and a quarter lengths back in last place was Gaytime Hawk.

Fourth Quarter Final

An early shock in the final quarter was the withdrawl of antepost favourite Droopys Nidge lame. It was left to Lenson Sanchez to take up the mantle of favourite at 10/11. As the boxes opened it was Tynwald Bish who broke early and led at the first, with a bumping match between Paradise Maverik and Salonika behind. Tynwald continued to lead from Lenson Sanchez and Paradise Maverik, Blonde Nipper and Salonika. Around the final bend Paradise Maverik began to challenge the weakening Tynwald Bish, with Lenson Sanchez also running on strongly. At the line Paradise Maverik held on by a length and a quarter to win in 28.28 from Tynwald Bish, with favourite Lenson Sanchez a 1/2 length back in third.
